The most formulation-dependent polymer on the market. The same resin becomes a rigid window profile or a flexible cable sheath depending entirely on the recipe.

PVC — Polyvinyl Chloride

What separates PVC from other commodity polymers is that it is never used on its own. It is processed as a compound containing heat stabilisers, plasticisers, fillers, lubricants and impact modifiers. The final properties owe as much to that recipe as to the resin.

Suspension and emulsion

Suspension grade (S-PVC) dominates by volume and goes into pipe, window profile, sheet and rigid packaging. K value drives the selection: a lower K value processes more easily, a higher K value delivers greater mechanical strength. Emulsion grade (E-PVC) is the resin behind plastisol work — coating, synthetic leather, footwear soling and dip moulding.

The chlorine content gives PVC inherent flame retardancy and strong chemical resistance. The trade-off is a narrow processing window: if stabilisation is inadequate, degradation moves quickly. We therefore assess grade and formulation together with the application.
